Removing ants

Ants are easily distinguishable, as we’ve all grown up around them. The real issue is that many people don’t fully understand what types of ants are out there, and what their specific characteristics are. These extremely strong pests have three-segmented bodies, bent antennae, and six legs. They have some slight differences like size and color, as well as some behavioral differences.

Below are some of the different types of ants that you may encounter and what sets them apart:

• Fire ants. 

Fire ants are nasty little creatures. Most people know their reddish color, as most of us have been bit by one at some point. They are very aggressive, and are easy to agitate. Their stings are very painful, and their venom can actually cause an allergic reaction in some people. These ants need to be removed quickly.

• Sugar ants. 

While sugar ants aren’t known for attacking, they are still a nuisance. They like sugary, sweet food—hence their name. These brown or black ants have a tendency to get into your food and eat it. They can also spread bacteria. Above all that, they are odorous and can smell gross when they are crushed.

• Argentine ants. 

These ants are also small and brown, and they like sweet foods as well. Just like sugar ants, they tend to get into everything and can be a pain to get rid of.

While getting rid of an ant or two is easy, all of the ants listed above live in colonies. They are particularly resilient, and can be hard to remove once they move into your home. Once they’ve moved in, they will start to spread bacteria, eat your food, and even sting you. On top of all of this, they can also cause structural damage to your home.

Because of all of these issues, you need to address any ant infestation quickly before it gets worse.
